Frames, Frames, Frames!!!

Now that the summer is over, it's time to get back to the hum of the sewing machine.

I have been playing with the sewing machine for a while, as I like the effect it gives while using it as a pencil to draw and write. The pieces I have started making are hand stitched with a machine, and include Welsh poems, sayings, quotes, names and anthems. I like the way it's style is unpredictable and rustic and looks like my own handwriting.

Let's Get This Blog Started!!

Hi Guys! I've been meaning to set up this blog for a while, so here goes.

Where should I start?

I'm a Welsh designer/maker/crafts person who has been born, raised and educated in the heart of West Wales. I have always been excited by craft, textiles and making, and I am told that I follow both my Grandmothers in this sense. I enjoy all aspects of textiles and craft including, weaving, stitch, felting, embellishment, print, hand knitting, crochet and drawing. These skills were further developed during my time at West Wales School of the Arts, where I graduated with a 1st class (hons) degree in Contemporary Textiles in 2011.

My final degree collection's theme was based on the idea of a vintage tea party set in a secret garden. Having explored visual elements such as old china teacups and their patterns, lace and doilies and floral elements the ideas developed to experiment with fresh and innovative woven ideas as well as printed and felted aspects.

Sketchbook Development

My love of old classic mini's and my passion for weaving came together to create a very unique and quirky piece of work. The logical move to re-upholster the interior of my classic 1983 limited edition mini sprite with my hand-woven, lambswool fabrics has been made with much thought and consideration, as well as the digitally printed fabric and felted elements that lie alongside.

The ideas evolved to create fresh woven fabric that incorporate the optical illusions and patterns found in the original black and white herringbone seat facings, but with a contemporary twist.

Photo shoot - Gernos Farm, Maesllyn
My photoshoot was fun and quirky, just like my final piece. I located it at the farm where my uncle works. With special thanks for help that day to, Uncle Arwyn, Datcu, Huw, Lleucu, Guto the Photographer and of course Roy the sheepdog.
